The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is a quirky, artsy—and mind boggling platform/puzzler.
PB Winterbottom isn’t your ordinary pie thief. In addition to a wonderful moustache and a tall hat, he has the ability to clone himself. The clones can be sent off to do actions that you’ve recorded by holding down the Right Trigger. Just like you they can only run, jump, float using the umbrella and hit things, but by using a combination of those actions between yourself and your clones, you can press buttons, hit switches and launch other clones in the air. While the concept is simple, the game sets puzzles that will bend your mind.
This constant challenge to your mental abilities is what will keep you focused on beating The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. The game is not unfair, but rather that it was truly challenging your abilities. One problem with the game is that there is no hints system, so if you get stuck the game wont give you any clues as too how to finish the puzzle
The basic concept for the game would get old during the 4-5 hours it would take to finish the game but thankfully it does not thanks to new game play mechanics that keep the game moving. Portals will come in to play and some puzzles require that pies are obtained in a certain order. The game does not have a linear format for tackling puzzles, giving you the opportunity to skip to a different puzzle if the one you are on is too difficult. Bonus levels contain challenges that require you to finish it within a certain time, or only using a limited amount of clones add to the different ways you can play the game and also contain online leader boards.
In addition to its innovative game play, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom offers great artistic presentation. The art style and looped music take notes from the silent movie era.
