Episode 1: Bugtastic

So I played through American McGee's Grim in a very short time during the free 24 hour period. It seemed to take about half-an-hour to beat the first episode. The game has a story element that starts the game off, where Grimm is the narrator and the townsfolk talk and such. However, during this segment the game's voice acting sound effects go up and down in volume, sometimes to the volume of a whisper and then suddenly the volume triples and you have to keep your hand on the volume button the entire time. During the ending there are points where there is no voices at all. At the end of the game, my computer actually hard crashed... Argh!

Gameplay itself is not bad, just run around and turn things into nasty things. I think the game is supposed to emphasize speed running as it encourages you to get the fastest time possible for medals. But there really doesn't seem to be much of a method to this madness, and the game often stops to show you your next objective, and even takes the time to play the sound bites. So I can see this getting very repetitive if you do try to get the best times you'll probably be sick of Grimm telling you to "Make it Stinky".

Aside from the visual animations of everything changing into something dark, the game itself lacks any sort of gameplay depth, is very short, and for me, it was pretty bugtastic. I hope they fix these before they start the next episode, and I hope it doesn't continue to be a 24 hour beta-test.
