You are alone in the world. You wake up on a shore of a beach in a desolated island where you are greeted by the Nameless Sister. You are Dead.
The Void is a game that can inspire several of the emotions listed above. You wake up dead on a beach on what appears to be some kind of purgatory. Soon afterwards you are introduced to one of the first Sisters that will help you guide through your path in this hellish land. Not long for that you will be introduced to the Brothers, the guardians of the Sisters. Creatures of hellish design there to thwart or help your path.
The final question is, will you help a Sister ascend, the Brothers to maintain the status quo of the void or ascend alone.
The art direction of The Void is something never seen. Every corner glows with emotion and the feeling of the developers. From the beauty of the chambers and the Sisters to the distorted visages of the Brothers, every stroke of colour and emotion falls in the right place like an abyssal theatre come together piece by piece forming a dead yet colourful world.
The soundtrack and sound are up there with the design, top notch. Simple yet effective, spectral and yet delicate, fearful and yet blissful. The only soundtrack I ever heard out of game as it is one of the main mood setters of the whole Void.
The mechanic is fluid as every action is done by drawing (except walking inside the chambers). Travelling, fighting and talking, all is done by drawing the corresponding glyph of Lympha on the screen. Lympha is also your life and your death. As time passes Lympha evaporates from your body, forcing you to collect more Lympha to survive. An eternal circle of consumption.
All in all The Void is a game of despair, of inner struggle and eroticism. A true work of art in the pale medium that has become the gaming industry.
