Bioshock leads you into the a mysterious under water city named
rapture. Rapture seems to have its fair share of issues as everyone
seems to be just insane. The world is controlled by adam which makes
plasmids that give you magic like power through the science of genetics.
Gameplay is from a 1st person perspective. You really get that eerie
feel that there is a ton of insane baddies out to get you, and that
could be no truer. You have a wide array of weapons to constantly
choose from. You can switch between them in a sort of quick switch menu
and you can do the same with your plasmids. weapons have 3 types of
ammo all with different effects. All the weapons are upgradeable and
the looks of them change as you add them. There is also hacking mini
games which will allow you to get some extra stuff.
The sound of Bioshock will leave you with fond memories of humor, or
nightmares of things you just wish you didn't hear. When a big daddy
arrives you really get that sense of panic as you try to pinpoint those
giant footsteps. As insane people tend to ramble you will often hear
them before you see them. You can even tell their aggression levels
based on voice. Weapons all sounds different and the music is some of
the best original music of its time. The game just raises the bar of
how a game should sound.
Bioshock not only sounds good, but it looks good as well. The game
keeps a dark feel, and lets you know that you in a really screwed up
place. Character models are done right and the effects of weapons look
good, as burns and blood effects just look natural. The combat also
feels natural. The game takes itself more seriously and you won't see
bodies flying even though you can shoot out fireballs. The characters
really react and look natural. The liquid effects also just emerge you
into where you are. You don't just walk into different environments,
your character responds to them and really makes the game more personal.
For anyone who likes first person, action, adventure, or just a good
story, bioshock is a must have for any gamer. The mystery that revolves
around rapture is just to fun to miss.
