To be a Pirate or not to be a Pirate.

A few years ago i went to my local game store to purchase a game, as a fan of pirate games i was stunned to see risen 2 for just 36 dollars Canadian and it was a pirate based game i would have been in heaven but instead i picked up a cheaper game called Enchanted Arms and never looked back but just a few months ago i saw Risen 2 again at a game store close by and it was only $15 i was shocked and happy it was so cheap, finally a game where i can be a pirate, sail the seas and swashbuckle my way through jungles and beautiful beach setting.........Oh god what did i do

Story- Ok so story wise this is a semi sequel to the first Risen whereas your main character is a member of the Inquisition and your duty is to strip yourself of the title spy and become and land lobber pirate and destroy the evil Lord Mara who is a titan. Along the way you will meet interesting characters with personalities that border on the line of dull or crazy and passionate but either way the story is sub par and also who ever doesn't like the occasional F-Bomb might want to plug you're ears cause this game has a lot of those bombs.

Graphics- Ok so the story wasn't bad, a tad bit hard to grasp at times but it's forgivable but the graphics on the other hand for the PS3 are just plain terrible with bugs and glitches abound it's a wonder that Wizard Box even tested this game before releasing it. The PS3 version is very ugly with trees and bushes that appear to grow bigger as you get closer and water that for some random reason won't react to your jumps or walks or runs it just kinda sits there. The random death traps are one of the biggest issues i had, why would you set traps all over a jungle and disguise them to the point where it's literally impossible to distinguish trap from ground i mean seriously i'm all for a challenge but when stepping on what you think is a rock and then BAM your dead just seems unfair and shows that the developers had no idea what they were just lazy and left them as is.

Control- Oh lord what have they done, let me sum this up, enemies who keeps attacking even when your sticking your sword into their backside and guns that always seem to miss oh and let's not forget the fact that every defense attempt you have at your disposal aren't usable until you learn them. I'm all for realism and yes some characters should work hard to learn complicated abilities but seriously why in the bloody blue he$$ do i have to spend money to learn how to kick it's beyond insane and until you have kick your a dead man walking, every enemy has insane reach and never flinches or stumbles after you hit them they just keep swinging away now that's determination. The voodoo system although a neat touch is pretty much useless because not only does it take a boat load of time to access that feature but when you do it's just a very meh technique that only helps in small doses. So all in all bad combat and just plain bad controls in general.

Sound- How on earth can this go wrong i mean a pirate game should have amazing sound, everything from battling ships to gunshots to nature in the jungle to pretty much everything just sounds terrible and some things don't even have sound. See that nice little river over there yea good luck hearing it same goes with the characters voices sometimes they cut in and out and if your trying to follow the story it can be very irritating. So for sound not much to say here very mediocre honestly.

Replay- Unless your a glutton for punishment i'd say don't bother the game already has well over 10 hours of gameplay which has you finding loot, defeating enemies, getting glory points, buying a useless monkey and other feats that just don't seem worth the second trip to the world of risen 2.

Final Word- So obviously you can tell i'm a tad bit angry, this is by far the most angry review I've ever done and for good reason if back then i spent over 30 dollars on this i would have went back and returned it without a second thought i mean honestly a Pirate game that doesn't let you control your own ship THAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE not to mention the legion of bugs and glitches stay far away from the PS3 version of risen 2 try the PC version as i hear it's much better and less bugs.
