The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is a fairly clever adventure game that starts out strong and never really lets up.
I missed the original game when it first came out and I was very excited to try this one out when the remake was released. The game looks very sharp and the art style is very clean and realized. The Humor is pretty good, and that is a real compliment because humor in video games has been very hard to achieve. The game as a whole really knows what it is trying to do and focuses on simply nailing the pirate thing. The sound is probably the best feature of the game. The voice acting is very well done and the delivery of the lines adds a layer of sarcasm and punch that would be lost on just text. The musical tracks layered underneath what you are doing really keeps the game light and atmospheric. When your sailing around Monkey Island there are carribean' congos playing. When you are figuring out a puzzle in the depths of hell the music and mood are kept very light which kept the game experience very consistent. At no point in the whole experience did the game take itself to seriously.the pirate swinging on the chandlier is perfect!
The last thing I really enjoyed about the game was that it was a welcome change from FPS's,RPG's and open world games (which are in abundance as of late). I felt the same way about TRINE which is to say that the adventure game was a nice change of pace and continually reminded me of the different ways to enjoy a video game besides getting a "headshot".
