Red Faction is a very competent third person shooter from volition inc. the guys who brought us saints row. The obvious thing to mention first is the destructibility of the buildings and more importantly, the physics. This game should be played if for no other reason then to run around and blow up anything in your way. This game  pushes video games forward when it comes to how buildings should fall down. plenty of games out there have and use physics, but none to the extent the Red Faction does.
The game is broken down into zones which you systematically knock off one by one. Once you liberate one zone from the oppressive EDF then you move on to the next. This is where the game really faulters for me,  I began playing wanting to complete every side mission etc. which the game encourages you to do by highlighting key places on your map. However I found myself In the third zone saying "screw these side missions". Thats the real heart of the problem, because most people may either put the game down or soldier through to the end only never to pick it up again.
I found it curious that driving around the world was not as much fun as I would have hoped. Especially because I loved Saints row and Saints Row 2 so much.  The world really does not have that little extra life that a GTA or some other open world games do.

GRAPHICS- The graphics are very clean with not to many frame rate issues although there are some. The game does a nice job of visually making you believe your on mars. It does some nice motion blur.

SOUND- the Sound effects are very well done, there are nice details like a building creaking right before it falls down.

STORY-  The Story is extremely dissapointing, by the end of the game I was happy to do what I did but was more interested in the game being finished then for the over arching story which was very "blah"

FINAL VERDICT  =   RENT
