Lacking the Charm and Variety of other Shin Megami Tensei titles

I am a huge fan of Persona 3 and 4.  While I knew this game was a strategy title going in, I was also aware that the battle system closely resembled the Persona titles.  Unfortunately, I found the story and dialogue to be monotonous and boring, and resorted to clicking through the endless pages of text after a couple of hours.  The battles had a horrible way of making my party characters feel underpowered and largely ineffective.  By limiting each character to 3 techniques, many of the game's abilities are simply useless compared to the stronger spells.  The battles don't require much real strategy and don't do a great job of taking advantage of the maps.  The typical map requires you to either kill all the enemies or protect a weakling character(s) from impending death.  I quit after getting to the 3rd day in the story because I just wasn't having any fun with the story or the battle system.  I am going to start playing Nocturne and hope that it is an improvement over Devil Survivor.
