The Original Wolfenstein was the game that engineered the FPS genre and its modern iteration is not as revolutionary to the genre as the original but still a lot of fun.

The game is set in World War 2 with you taking control of American Commando B.J. Bazkowitz, who is sent to a remote German city where Nazis are experimenting with a powerful energy source called the Black Sun. This sents him through a variety of cool historic enviroments that are very well designed and feel alive.
The Levels of the game are linked by the Hub zone of the main city, which is very large and gives you a lot of places to murder Nazis.

The Game uses the Id Tech 4 engine and looks phenomenal for the current day and can look on par with other PC shooters of this year but also is able to run on just about anything, the game is very pretty with excellent effects and  interactive enviroments, the game has a good mix of realism and stylism and has a very strong action movie feel to it with a great soundtrack.

The Combat in the game is fairly standard with B.J. able to wield about 10 weapons ranging from historically accurate rifles and machine guns to the more fun weapons like particle beams and tesla cannons, all the weapons are extremely satisfying to use and recreating scenes from Indiana Jones using the particle beam NEVER gets old(Seriously).
B.J can also wield 4 Veil powers that are unlocked over the course of the game-

  1. Veil-this base power allows you to see enemies, explosives and objects of interest as well as helps you to find secrets and collectables scattered throughout Wolfenstiein as well as increases B.J.'s speed.
  2. Mire- Mire allows you to slow time and if upgraded turn enemies to dust.
  3. Shield- Shield allows you to project a forcefield around yourself that can eventually reflect bullets back at enemies
  4. Empower-Empower makes you bullets explosive and also gives them the ability to travel through walls and defensive structures.
All the Weapons and powers in Wolfenstein can be upgraded with money you gain by finding collectables and completing missions, its impossible to MaX out your character so you will have to make some choices in how you want to play.

Wolfenstein is a great modern FPS, its no Bioshock or Half Life but is just a lot of fun and well worth playing.
