Call of Duty: World At War, for me, was an impulse buy. I bought it because the CoD 4 game we all know and love was just getting too repetitive for me and i wanted something new. In many aspects i was granted this wish, but in many more i was shot down.
The games campaign provides a great new look at WWII as 1. An American soldier, Pvt. Miller, fighting against the Japanese as he makes his way across the Pacific. And 2. A Soviet soldier, Pvt. Dimitri Petrenko, fighting against the Germans as they press towards Berlin to finish the European conflict.
The campaign was everything i hoped that it could be and more. The level design, i thought, was very thought out and well executed, as i was never confused on what i was supposed to be doing to progress the battle. The campaign i have, and will get much more entertainment from as i continue to assassin Germans and burn the Japanese. Plus, there is nothing like getting together with some friends to kill off wave after wave of endless Nazi Zombies after unlocking the "Nacht der Untoten" mode , or more popularly named 'Zombie Mode' after unlocking it via compleating the campaign.
The multiplayer for CoD: World at War is what i was insentive to buynig this game. With 22+ Unlockable guns as well as multiple types of grenades, and more perks than you could ever need, not even counting the diferent types of multiplayer modes, the multiplayer can bring entertainment for a very long time.
Although this game is very good, it too, like any other game, has its down falls. The most depressing of all is that it does look just like Modern Warfare with "older" skins, and i dont think anyone could have put it better than Jeff Gerstmann when he said it "Feels like a mod for Call of Duty 4." Some people would say that the main con for this game falls under the multiplayer use of Tanks. I will agree with anyone when they say that they are too over powered, but it "IS" a tank, so that much is understandable. And finally the dogs, a three kill streek, like in CoD:4 will give you a "Recon", 5 kill steek will give you an "Artilery Strick" and last but not least, 7 will give you "Dogs". Some people say that the dogs are too much, where others say that it is a much needed change. THis is all a matter of oppinion. In my oppinion, there is nothing worse than getting shot in the head from a helecopter, when bunkered down nice and tight in a building with your comrads.
All in all i would say that this game is a Buy if you like the CoD games and if not, at least rent it and see what your missing out on.
