This review a little premature seeing as I haveen't even come close to completing the SP Campaign, and is certainly too sort for a game with this scope but I'm going to bang this out...and then get back to playing R2's competitve multiplayer, because it's that good. I have only played through the first boss in the SP, and then got into the MP and haven't turned back yet.
Simply put, I think that this game is gorgeous in appearance and in gameplay. The SP campaign picks up where Fall of Man ended and after some plot-advancing, Hale is now a black-clad badass who is part of an elite team of fellow uber-humans who are resistant to the Chimera Strain. Some of you may balk at this but I am convinced that Ted Price and the gang at Insomniac have played a lot of two particular games in preparation for this edition of their new franchise; Halo 3 and CoD4:Modern Warfare. I refer to the tight controls for the shooting, the multiplayer incentives for perks and points collection, and matchmaking for ranked matches.
I would say that the controls so closely mimick Halo 3 that I was wondering if they contracted some of the Bungie guys for this project. Anyway not only do you get a decent length, apparently ;) , of SP campaign, there is a large co-op campaign, and the online multiplayer with competitive play is just superb. It's a shame because I think that some of this game's thunder got immersed in the deluge of other quality Ps3 titles this holiday season, but this is still the cream of Sony's Shooter crop. Sony really should be getting plenty of hookers and blow for Insomniac because seriously, they have the best handle on this hardware I've seen this generation.
Anyway I'm going to list my categories and my scores;
Graphics: 9.5
Gameplay: 9
Story: 8
Multiplayer: 9.5
Value: 10
Thanks for reading.
