I've had this game for about 3 days now. Total play time about 2 hours.
It's usually at this point where you decide if you want to keep playing a game or not and without doubt, I threw my copy in the bin.
Firstly, I wasted an hour trying to sort out account issues. I set up my account on the EU website but the game client on the PS3 couldn't find it. In fact I had to make an account on the American website first and then the game woke up.
After a lengthy patch and character creation, I was dropped in the game and was instantly disappointed. I know not all games are voice acted. This is due to time and/or cost issues. SWTOR did it and did it well, WoW barely does. The difference is though, in WoW your first engagement in conversation is like the rest of the game. A wall of text and a quest accept. In this game, for the first 15 minutes you are reading block after block of dialogue. The character giving this "speech" is fully animated and even his mouth moves, but nothing comes out. It's shot like a cutscene, which it is, but to have no dialogue is jarring.
The second issue I found almost right away was the framerate, which was horrific. I knew I should of bought the PC version!
But perhaps the most annoying was the actual gameplay. For the first hour, you are running around this city, from person to person, reading text blocks and handing in/picking up quests. There is NOTHING else going on and even after you hand in a large chunk of quests, you notice you are still level 1. It was a bit later you get a quest to leave the city and kill things and ironically enough although I pined for action, at this point I quit the game.
Navigating the city with a piss poor framerate was bad enough. Now I had to find my way out, with no guidance (the map is no help) and make my way outside the city . Yawn.
True the game may pick up later and be a blast, but first impressions count and I was annoyed, bored and tired before I even killed a single creature.
Oh and while you will no doubt get used the controls, playing a MMORPG on a console is a bad idea.
