Not as bad as they say

I'll be the first to admit this isn't a hit game, the gameplay is showing its age, the graphics don't look particularly "next gen", and level environments are often re-used. But if your a fan of past Tenchu games then there is still some enjoyment to be had here (just hopefully at a discounted price).

The game throws a few interesting missions into what is for the most part a grind to get through them all, but there is definitely some satisfaction in building up your character, customizing his gear and trying out new moves. Ultimately the game feels a bit like a Tenchu simulator, and by the end of it you just end up feeling more powerful.

I personally still prefer the stealth action element of Tenchu Z over the hardcore button mashing style of a game like Ninja Gaiden, so I'm going to have to recommend this game, even if it doesn't feel fully realized. I'd like to see the character customization used more in future Tenchu games, but hopefully coupled with a more interesting story, better graphics, and some new ideas in terms of mission design.
