When I first played this in 2011 on the PS3 I was obsessed with it. So much so that it was one of the games I platinumed (100%) out of 20 platinum games or so of mine. Playing it on the PC through steam 7 years later, it still holds up pretty well but there are a few things about it I wasn't crazy about. The graphics are still top notch, the gameplay is still fun, and the level design is pure great quality. However I feel as though this time I enjoyed 2D Sonic's game mechanics more than 3D modern Sonic.
Modern Sonic just feels too easy and too fast, there's not much to him. 2D Sonic is more challenging, more engaging, and requires you to be more careful but as you master him you can go at fast rates. 2D Sonic forces you to really memorize the level design, different routes, different ways of getting around faster. Yes you can say some of that for 3D Sonic, but 3D Sonic is waaay to forgiving and gives a perfect score too easily. 2D makes you earn the perfect score. None the less this is one of my favorite Sonic games and anyone into the platform genre should give this a shot if they haven't.
Also just a heads up, the PC version is a little buggy, a lot of times it would continue to play but not recognize my controller or even keyboard so I would end up having to alt+tab out and quit. Would be annoying but nothing game breaking.
