GTA V runs the risk of being one of the most overrated games. It has some of the best acting in a game, very good atmospheric graphics with great optimization and fun missions, but there are so many sides to this game and so much ...stuff in it, that you know not everything can be good. Some things can be annoying and some are closely enough connected to the gameplay that start spoiling it. The number one problem is that the multiplayer is a mess, yet it adds a number of really important features to the game that are absent from single player, which reveal what lacks in single player, making the single player worse as a result. Of course, the various flaws are in the eyes of the beholder, but here it goes.
Annoyances:
- The enemy AI hits you from a mile away shooting a pistol from behind cover with one hand. And the system where your health gets visibly chipped away is not great to begin with, but it is particularly annoying here. Frankly, if the rest of the game did not have so many good features, this AI behavior would have been a deal breaker.
- In single player mode there is no way to track your vehicle and starting a mission often makes the player abandon it. There's is some possibility to recover your vehicle but it does not work well, and that means you won't be spending money on pimping out your rides since you can lose them so easily;
- Multiplayer is filled with random ***holes, as you would expect, and the missions are lackluster. Team deathmatch mode is relatively fun though;
- A nail-bitingly annoying cluttered options interface;
- Various other little things like a very linear story line, no clear accuracy difference between guns, useless sneaking, not particularly interesting side missions, a weird lag when walking around with your characters, etc.
If I could give advice to myself in the past, I would say stay away from the multiplayer mode, then don't be afraid to take the effort to mod your single player game (many great mods out there) and keep staying away from the multiplayer unless you have friends to play with. The mods recently made me come back to this game, but should I give credit to the developers for the work they haven't done? Either way, this is not a 5 star game.
