Jeff's review is pretty spot on - this is a solid 4 star game, but if you are into techno and DJs, and if names like Daft Punk and Grandmaster Flash mean something to you, add a star.
The game allows you to flip the highway and the side you want the buttons on. This isn't the lefty flip option, which flips the turntable and fader, this is just letting you put your hand on the inside of the controller or outside. I found it easier to go from the outside, but scratching the inner blue button is tricky. To get a well controller scratch (there are are times where the game wants to to scratch up, up, down, up or similar) you will need to get used to moving the turntable with your thumb.
Jeff didn't mention the $200 renegade edition, which is a shame. If you are okay with spending that much, the value is there. Included is a carrying case which can double as a stand. This is is made for parties of drunk friends knocking over things. I believe the controller will break long before the case or stand will. I do want to mention that the "bonus music" included with the renegade edition is just a music CD and not any more in game music tracks. (The box description can be misleading if you don't read carefully).
If you loved the ability to buy outfits or style your Rock Band avatar, you will be disappointed with DJ Hero. There is only a basic "select character / outfit" like Guitar Hero 3 and prior. I personally didn't care for that aspect of the other games, so I don't miss it. The music is the most important part of a music game, and DJ Hero here is excellent. The mixes are well done, and keep you playing "just one more set" to unlock more songs. If there is a soundtrack offered of the in game mixes I will buy it without hesitation.
DJ Hero doesn't back down when you up the difficulty level. When you are hitting all the notes, scratches, fades, effects, controlled scratches, rewinds, and euphoria the feeling is awesome. You feel less like you are riding the highway and more like you are driving. I don't think I ever had to do as much active thinking in Rock Band, even on expert it still felt passive.
