Back in 1986, back when Ronald Reagan and Wiliam "Refrigerator" Perry roamed the Earth, Nintendo released a game that reinvented the adventure genre and set a precedent for future games to come with its open-ended world and exploration... and female protagonists. Metroid, despite its flaws, was a hit among gamers and we were looking for more. Yes, we did see a sequel for the Game Boy, but the handheld's limited power and the more linear path of the gameplay left many fans wanting even more of the Metroid of old. Then along came Super Metroid, an epic adventure that took all the elements that made Metroid great and perfected them into a near-flawless game with plenty of heart-pounding action and freedom to do whatever the hell you want.
