Peggle Nights
Peggle Nights is sequel to the original Peggle by PopCap Games. In it, the Peggle masters are asleep, and you get to take a peek into their dreams. They all have alternate dream lives, such as the Lord Cinderbottom the Dragon as a Firefighter, or Bjorn the Unicorn as a crime fighter. These are frequently funny, if you are familiar with the original game.
Gameplay
Gameplay is exactly the same as in the old game, with the same interface, controls, and sounds. This is not a bad thing, as Peggle and Peggle Nights are both very fun games. This is more of a “level pack” than anything. The only new feature besides levels is the new master Marina, with her Electrobolt power. It draws and electric beam from the bucket at the bottom of the level to the peg hit by the ball. It is a unique power in terms of the game, and is quite useful at times.
Sound
The sound in the game is again, exactly as it was in Peggle. The classical music during “Extreme Fever” is quite exhilarating, and tongue-in-cheek at the same time. The “dong” of the pegs is a familiar noise to long time players. Music varies between levels, and is generally pleasant. Nothing stands out in my memory as “annoying.”
Replayability
After the main adventure mode of 60 levels is finished, the Challenge and Quick Play modes are unlocked. These offer additional challenges. These can range from very easy to vary hard, such as simply double orange pegs, to starting with one ball. The Quick Play mode offers two ribbons per level. One for “Ace” score, which is generally a high score for the level, and the All Clear ribbon which is awarded for clearing all pegs in the stage. This will certainly bring back hardcore players back for more.
Value
At $20, it is the standard price of PopCap's casual games. If you were a fan of the first, I can recommend this to you whole-heartedly. To those who are unfamiliar with the series, I would recommend the first one, which is available for $10 on Steam. EDIT: This game is also available on Steam, also for $10. Score has been changed. Considering all the other downloadable game options on XBLA, PSN, and all sorts of Indie games on PC, I only recommend this one if you are a big fan of Peggle.
