Geometry Wars Retro Evolved was one of the very first games to be launched on XBLA when the Xbox 360 first launched. Since then it became classic on the system for its addictive gameplay and challenging nature. From here Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2 serves up more on the plate without ruining the classic formular.
For those who haven't played Geo Wars the game is a top down - twin stick shooter, you move with one analogue stick and shoot with the other. You fly your ship around a colourful grid shooting at enemies in order to stay alive. The game features 6 different modes, all of which a hugely fun to play and recquire different tactics and challenge you to change your playing style to match that mode.
Probably the best feature of the game is the leaderboard system which features your place amongst your friends in the menus as you select the game. The reason you keep going back and playing Geo Wars 2 is for addictive leaderboard purposes seeing whos beaten your scores and how close you are to beating theres.
The graphics are also a step up from the last game looking much sharper and with excellent colours and vibrant explosions. The game also brings in new music and remixes from the previous games for each of the modes.
If high octane action and tense score battling aren't really your thing then Geometry Wars 2 might not be the game for you. For anyone who loves intensity in their games, you can't really go wrong. The game stays fun for a long time and the thrill of each of the game modes will keep you coming back for more.
