Very good, but great?

I was late finishing this one - finally got to the end after over a month. This is a very good game - the game mechanics are polished, visual effects stunning, enemies smart enough but not 'psychic' when it comes to figuring out where you're hiding. All this makes for a great stealth gaming experience.

Then there's the story. Alot has been said about MGS playing by its own rules in terms of storyline crazyness, but to be honest, I don't think I get it. The story, if made into a movie, would be lambasted for what it is - cheesy, overlong, one-dimensional, repetitive and, dare I say, boring.

*mild spoilers below*

The one example that comes to mind is the speaches Drebin insists on delivering after each BB fight. After the 2nd one, this became my grab-a-beer-and-call-for-pizza break. I simply didn't care.

All in all, a very very good game. Had as much fun playing this as GTA4 - but when you're not playing, you'll be cringing.
