I can't tell you how much I anticipated this game. For months I would watch trailers and look at the newest screenshots, eagerly awaiting the day this would come out and own my life. As soon as I started playing, I knew I was playing a game unlike anything I'd ever played before. Yes, the game is by Rockstar, the team that brought you Red Dead Redemption and the Grand Theft Auto series, but this is a completely different type of experience. L.A. Noire opens the story with the main character, Cole Phelps, walking the beat as an average patrol cop. Suddenly there is gunfire and before anyone knows what happened a man is lying on the sidewalk in downtown L.A. dead. Thus begins the investigation. Cole must interrogate and question the eye-witnesses. This is where L.A. Noire shines. The interrogations flow so beautifully and elegantly, it's almost like watching a movie. In fact, L.A. Noire blurs the line between cinema and game better than...well, most everything.
The graphics are fantastic and the facial expressions are perfect. The story...well the story gets a little bogged down and slow at times, especially the last half of the game.
In the beginning of the game, I loved working the crime scenes. It was a blast. I also loved the interrogations. Sadly, the game gets a tad repetitive and the action scenes and car chases leave much to be desired. The story gets too self-involved and very confusing towards the last 2 hours. Still not quite sure how it all pieced together and the ending was weird and unsatisfying.
Seriously though, L.A. Noire is a must play. It has its problems and pacing issues, but it's a gorgeous looking game that really gets a hold of you from the beginning with its gripping story and excellent acting.
