This is about Far Cry Classic - the recent re-release on PSN.
You kind of have to start by considering the original PC release tho. The video game industry at the time of the original PC release was not the gargantuan industry to rival Hollywood that it is today. Immersive high-fidelity FPS experiences were a treat and a rarity. Believable jungle vegetation, oceans, open maps that allowed for different tactical approaches, and dynamic enemy AI were even more rare. Half-Life 2 had been scheduled for release in late '03, had an unheard of budget, and had PC gamers' mouths watering in anticipation. People were building new machines just to get ready for HL2. Then HL2 was delayed for a year. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance. Enter Far Cry to save the day. At least, that's the way my imperfect memory says it was.
Now, today, all of the things that made Far Cry such an amazing experience are common and executed on a much higher level. Great games come and go faster than anyone can keep up with them, even if the best games are still a rarity. You are currently choosing to skip games that are better than Far Cry because you don't have time for them. The PSN release is buggy with visual and audio glitches, passable frame-rates, mediocre movement and aiming, iffy ballistics, and a general lack of polish. It feels like a low budget port, and is priced accordingly. Also, laughable voice acting, but that falls in the 'so bad it's good' category - actually, the so bad it's awesome category, it will put a smile on your face.
Regardless, the bottom line is that, for people who were there, this is a nostalgia trip not to be missed, worth every penny of the $10 asking price, and a joy to experience. You might be better off picking it up on PC rather than PSN if you're inclined towards kb&m. But if you like the idea of kicking back with a controller, the PSN version is more tuned for that experience and becomes the way to go.
However...if you weren't there, or have to ask what Far Cry is about, or want details on the gameplay and mechanics - this isn't for you, go pick up Far Cry 3. The original Far Cry held up for longer than most games, but it doesn't hold up to expectations in 2014. Me, I can play it for hours and enjoy it every bit as much as Far Cry 3, but there is no question that this game is only for:
1. People like me who are seriously nostalgic about it, and want to use a controller
2. Those who enjoy retro experiences
3. Budget gamers looking for another budget game
Edit: Word is that the 360 version is the better console version, with fewer graphical hiccups and etc.
