Let’s get this straight, there practically is no story in TimeShift. It really is sad to see such potential for a great story-line not taken advantage of. Pretty much you are a man who gets to test out a beta suit that allows the wearer to slow down, pause or rewind time for so long and that is practically where the story ends. If you have to have stories like Halo, Bioschock etc. then this is not the game for you.The combat system is fairly fun and intuitive. The abilities presented available to you because of the suit allow for you to take on large amount of enemies and still come out on top. And, the higher difficulties make the player use his so called powers more wisely. One of my favorite parts of the game was the little problems you had to figure out and solve using your special suit. Such as pausing time to get through a door or rewinding time to stop that grenade from exploding on your skin. I will remember these moments and I desperately hope they are implemented into a better game in the future. Driving vehicles… sucks. Driving is so hard to control it is hard to considering it driving. It is more like bumper cars with a destination.
The weapons are really awesome but they seem to be stolen from other games. Weapons like the torque bow and plasma grenade appear in the game except with a different name.
The graphics are decent with good texture but everything seems somewhat stale. Visual hitches occur fairly often, it is like a short lag on screen even when you aren’t loading anything new.
Mulitplayer is definitely worth checking out in TimeShift. Instead of having the same time powers in when playing with other people (it would be impossible…) you store up your energy just like you normally would except you can throw slow down grenades that affect a certain area and indefinitely make things interesting. TimeShift has all the usual modes you would expect such as deathmatch, team death match and so on.
Overall, TimeShift is a slightly better than average FPS that only deserves your attention if you are looking for a unique experience and can’t get ahold of other top notch FPS’s. I would give it a 2 out of 5.
