A good effort

I picked up Brink, courtesy of my amazing girlfriend, on my way home from work yesterday and got to play for about 2 hours. Now when I was looking at the game while trying to decide whether or not to get it, I saw mixed reviews but I decided that I would give it a try. I want to say that I like it, I really do. It has so many awesome features in it (alright, so maybe not all are revolutionary), but it seems like they spent some much time trying to mash games together that they forgot to make content.

The mash-up of Mirror's Edge-like parkour, weapon customization that has been compared to Borderlands but i see as closer to Army of TWO, and TF2 style class play just plain works. There is nothing wrong with the game mechanics (unless you consider bot AI scaling) but the length of the whole thing puts me off. If you remember, I only spent 2 hours playing, and I'm almost done the Security campaign and half of the challenges.

Some people might argue that the game is meant to be played online with a team not unlike TF2. I would point out that once I get all the achievements in a game, it is time to move on. If the boys and girls at Bethesda had made this a 10 hour experience instead of a (potentially but hopefully not) 4 hour experience, I would feel better about Brink, but for now I'm torn.
