My epic beard will deflect all ranged attacks +2
Man oh man does this game take me back, This was one of the only RPG games to be found on the Genesis, The only other notable ones were the games of the Shining force saga and Shadowrun.
But being a fan of Dungeons and dragons i was a happy little clam when my papa picked this one up for me.
First thing you have to do when you boot this beast up is to create a party because who wants to go with a pre generated party?
Looks like the blonde guys got some plague acne.
Normally I make a party with two fighters and two mages but my best party (the one i got the furthest with) was three Fighters and a Cleric.
The party creation system is very basic but was to be expected during the 16 bit era,
You get to choose the Race, Sex, Class, And color of your party that consists of four people.
Then you go through the Stat genorator, it rolls random numbers for all of your stats and you can choose to keep or re-roll the number sets.
I recommend not staying with any stat set with any number below 10, In true Pen and paper D&D being below 10 in one or two stats won't kill you but in this game, one stat point can be the differance between life and death in your first fight.
The most effective way i found to servive early on in the game was to get every character a sling and just have them pelt the creatures to death with rocks.
....eww that sounds gross
When you get into the game you'll be greeted by the king of a city and the first quest you have to accomplish is to help the townsfolk clean the well and river water bacause it's poisoned.
So you buy what you need with the little money you have, sell what you don't want and so fourth untill you think your ready then you set out to the open field where in you are assulted by Giant Centepedes huge Dragonflies and ... Hairy Beastmen.... eww.
But anyway you fight them off the best you can while trying to figure out what the hell your trying to go and where the hell you currently are. i guess the point i'm making is that its really hard to understand what the crap is going on and making your way around the map is a horrible mess of trial and error. You walk west and cross a bridge, the song in the game changes into a more sinister toon so you turn around and you get assulted by a Hill giant. And if your like me you will die.... a lot....
But when you get the hang of it and are as determined as I was, Eventually I powered through till i got the boots of fire walking and wen't into the Volcanic region thats in the top western portion if i remember.
And I was walking around looking for a cave entrance or anything at all helpful. All i found was a large black dragon closing in on me, I killed a Green and Blue dragon a while back so I figured.. Meh, if anything he'll kill the ranger and oh how horrible that would be. How will i ever survive without my elf.
Needless to say my childish bravado and crashness did me little justice and I got decimated.
You can save your game but there is little point, The game will kill you over and over and over again untill you just put down the control and walk away. i've yet to beat this monster but when I was younger I thought this game was awsome.
Now i can only play it because of a childhood memory. The game as a whole was a horrible game I admit this.
But by all means play it for yourself and see what i mean.
just remember... The powers of the sling will never fail you.
