Dead or Alive 62019

4 out of 5 stars

Compared to most fighting games, Dead or Alive 6 has a huge amount of additional content and I would easily recommend it to casual players because of that. However, my review won’t go over much of that. I’ve played the DOA series competitively since 5 and I’ll be analyzing it from that point of view. In some fighting game series, old titles will stick around because they provide something that the new game cannot.…

Monster Hunter: World2018

5 out of 5 stars

A few days ago, I was struck by inspiration and booted up "Monster Hunter: World" at 5 a.m. I found it absolutely necessary to rearrange my radial menu before I continued playing the game. Being able to quickly access healing items is crucial to survival in this game. So before I jumped back into hunting, I sorted out my items and renamed my radial menus from generic "Shortcut 1/2/3/4" to "Heal", "Attack",…

Agents of Mayhem2017

3 out of 5 stars

Volition’s last major release Saints Row IV casts a very long shadow over Agents of Mayhem. Even though AOM only vaguely shares a universe with Saints Row series, it’s hard to imagine how you would top unlimited flight, guns that shoot dubstep-powered laser explosions , and the ability to throw magic missiles from your palms. Instead of being a superhero simulator like Saints Row IV, Agents of Mayhem is a team-based…

Horizon Zero Dawn2017

5 out of 5 stars

At least 15 open world video games come out every year, and I can usually count the ones worth completing on less than 5 fingers. Many open world games don't take advantage of the format properly. They'll have monotonous travel, wasted space, boring combat, and side-missions that merely exist to kill time. Horizon: Zero Dawn has none of these issues. It's one of the good open world games. Since you're living on a…

Zero Escape: The Nonary Games2017

5 out of 5 stars

Both titles included in Zero Escape: The Nonary Games are excellent visual novel/puzzle titles. Even with my limited experience in the genre, I cannot recommend them highly enough to anyone who has the patience to watch a mystery unfold in a methodical, but ultimately satisfying fashion. However, I find it difficult to describe why the plot is so engrossing without dropping several major spoilers about the game's…

Transformers: Devastation2015

2 out of 5 stars

Transformers: Devastation is another product of Platinum Games' collaboration with Activision. If you got this game for free on PlayStation Plus, it's worth a shot. If not, there are much better games from this developer to dive into. The presentation is the strongest part of Transformers. Platinum brought back as many voice actors from the original cartoon as they could, and they deliver their catchphrases and…

Teeny Titans2016

5 out of 5 stars

Teen Titans GO is one of the more divisive children's cartoons airing today. Some fans of the original Teen Titans series feel its a betrayal, because the original series ended prematurely while the comedic spinoff prospers. If you can't cope with the mere existence of Teen Titans GO, this game might not be for you. In fact, they directly make fun of you in the game more than once! Everyone else is in for a treat,…

Mirror's Edge Catalyst2016

3 out of 5 stars

When I finished the first Mirror's Edge, I hoped for a sequel that would polish the game's rough edges into a spectacular game. After finishing Mirror's Edge Catalyst, I'm hoping the developers get a shot at Mirror's Edge 3 to finally get it right. Catalyst improves on many of the issues with Mirror's Edge 1, but adds enough new problems to nearly cancel out the improvements. On the positive side, the free-running…

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell2015

3 out of 5 stars

Right now, my Gat out of Hell save file is at at 95% with an 8 hour playtime. If you're expecting a campaign on par with Saints Row IV or The Third in terms of length, look elsewhere. What you've got here is an oddly stuctured series of side Activities and minigames, and the "sidequest" parts of Gat Out of Hell ARE the main quest. You do enough of them and you eventually unlock the next story mission of which there…
