Awesome game, fast hard hitting action, excellent story & great controls. World in Conflict sets you in the middle of the Cold War and sets it ablaze between Russian and the United States. You start off in the European campaign and must fight your way back to an occupied United States (Red Dawn). This game takes a slightly different approach to the real time strategy genera in that they took out all the resource gathering and base defense features that are common among other games of its kind. Instead of protecting a base structure and creating units for combat, everything and everyone is dropped in via the Air Force to any location on the map you have control of. This keeps you from having to return back to your base, create units that were lost in combat and send them to the front lines. This takes time and takes you out of the immediate action and forces you to go back to your base to replenish your ranks. It also means there is no enemy base to destroy, only buildings, camps and bunkers need to be taken. World In Conflict drops everything right where you want it so you don't have to travel to far to re-support the front lines and push ahead. With all modern day weaponry, you can call in air strikes with laser guided bombs, napalm, carpet bombing and heavy artillery fire on any location that needs cleansing of communist forces.. This helps to tip the tide of battle in your favor when you need it most.
The game gives you different types of air and ground units to choose from Heavy, medium and light tanks, armored and amphibious transports, heavy, medium and scout helicopters, transport trucks and helicopters, heavy and medium anti-air vehicles, light armored troop transports (jeep's & hummer's), heavy and medium artillery, repair vehicles and ground troops which compose of infantry, airborne infantry, anti-tank infantry squads, snipers and demolition engineers.
W.I.C isn't an easy game, it starts you off with small and easy objectives, but as you traverse deeper into the story, the mission get harder and longer with certain objectives being timed to keep the action moving at break neck speed. This tends to create problems when you need a minute to stop and think and the proverbial nuke is on its way. It's easy to get bogged down in certain mission but with the ability to reinforce your lines and drop troops and equipment where its needed, it makes taking your objectives a little easier. If your a fan of real time strategy games, then World in Conflict is a must buy.
