Black came out in the midst of the Xbox 360 console release, and so it became skipped over by a lot of gamers. This game does one thing well: blowing shit up. The entirety of the game is essentially to move through an environment, disposing of baddies, by making the biggest mess and the loudest noise in the process. How does it stack up? Awesome! The game has specific set pieces such as blowing up a clock tower in the first level, and instead of just watching a few chunks fly off, you see the top of the clock tower explode and come crashing down, as well as the explosion move down the building, blowing it to hell in the process. Shoot through glass, open up doors with a shotgun, take out some baddies on a ledge by shooting the sign above them - you name it and Black probably does it. In Black, you play a Black Operative named Jack Kellar who operates outside of the law around the world and is imprisoned regarding some questionable activities that happened on the various missions he undertook, as well as exposing a traitor in the circle who then must be taken out by the end of the game. The game's story is told in live action cutscenes with Kellar in chains, as each mission represents a piece of the story surrounding Black. The soundtrack is a top-notch orchestrated soundtrack that adds to the Hollywood-like appeal of Black and giving it a blockbuster atmosphere. I wouldn't have minded some more rock-inspired tracks thrown in as well for the action set pieces.
All in all, Black is a great game, and although a lot of the destruction techniques are repeated often, this is a game I constantly find myself going back to over and over again just to blow some buildings to hell.
