With PlayStation's lineup of "minis" titles, I believe that most gamers are expecting to get a cheap game that they can easily pick up and play whenever they need a quick gaming fix. Kahoots fits this bill perfectly.
It's a puzzle game similar to the likes of "Lemmings" or more recently "Echochrome" where your character can only walk in a straight path and it is your job to alter the world around him to get him to the exit to complete the level. You control a little blue guy called a Kahoot. You aren't walking across built terrains or anything though, each level just consists of floating blocks set in front of a stylish backdrop.
Some of these blocks have a special effect on your character for example some blocks cause you to jump forward in the air, while others cause you to fall through the floor. These and a number of other platform effects are slowly introduced to you as you progress through the early levels. Whenever a new effect is added a, loud and hilarious creature made out of hacky sacks known as the Pegbeast will break out into song to let you know how to properly use it. You will always be looking forward to getting another visit from the Pegbeast. You swap the positions of these special blocks with ones beside them to try and advance your kahoot around the level.
Once you start getting past the first few levels (there are 50 in total and you aren't forced to play them in any specific order) you will quickly find the difficulty start to ramp up and you will really have to start thinking ahead before you start aimlessly wandering into spikes or "Cardborg" monsters which spells instant death. Luckily the game makes it easy for you to halt your characters movement while you examine the level and plan your route.
The real challenge to the game comes from the cupcakes that they place all over the levels in hard to reach places for you to collect. These will have you spending a lot more time on some levels than you thought you would. I found myself taking almost an hour to get all the cake on some of the hardest levels in the game. Sadly fetching these cakes doesn't really give you much besides the personal satisfaction of completing a difficult puzzle. For every ten or so cupcakes you get, you will unlock these little pictures showing real life Kahoot figurine at various landmarks around the world. It only lets you view them in a tiny window that you can just barely make it out and you will almost definitively never desire to look at them again. There are also a couple of really bland challenges with absolutely no rewards but are necessary for those who want a 100% completion which will net you one final rewarding song by the Pegbeast which I wont spoil for anyone who plans to set out to complete this feat.
Kahoots is a cute, pleasant puzzle game that will even give you some chuckles along the way. If you are looking for a good pickup and play puzzle game and want to give your brain a bit of a workout, then try out Kahoots.
