LolJapan.
No More Heroes was, at least to my knowledge, the Wii game to give the toilet-humor related console a fighting chance against the other consoles when it came to more darker, violent games. Even with NMH's (No More Heroes) bright, cell-shaded/comic book/anime appearance. NMH had suda51, the freaks behind Killer 7 onboard for this one, and you can definitely tell by the visual appearance, sick and occasionally awkward sexual humor and dialogue, as well as its overall style, making for a very slick, visually orgasmic expierience that beats most games trying to match this formula.
And that's really all the nice things I have to say, really.
As slick and visually appealing as it is, the gameplay to NMH is downright redundant and grind-tastic ala most RPG's, which isn't needed, since this is a action title. One thing they did right is the controls; the A button along with the tilt of your remote is for your weapons attack angle, and the B trigger, whether pressed or held down, is for your melee used to break enemy guard. This means is that there isn't constant waggle going on, minus when you're prompted to thrust the controllers when grabbing a enemy to do a wrestling move to instantly kill/severely damage a enemy when they're stunned. This also means that these are the only buttons you press during combat; a mashing of A to slice a dude, and B to punch him in the teeth when he guards.
THAT'S. IT.
Combine this with waves and waves of cannon fodder fuck-wits who hardly vary in appearance and attack pattern, ranging from enemies with bats, swords, the occasional gun... Enemies do vary between levels, but besides that, it's the same assholes over and over and over and over and over again. The game tries to add a random factor in by adding a slot machine that spins each time you kill a enemy, giving you various results if you land 3 of the same icon; invincibility, instant kill energy shots, or a mass bonus of cash to name a few. The only problem with this is that the slot machine has a utterly minimal chance of giving you one of these bonuses, as from my playthrough's, I've only had one successful slot spin per level. The only redeeming factor about dragging your bored-as-sin carcass through these levels is just to reach the boss fights, which is the only redeeming factor to the combat. The bosses are all unique, crazy, with their own flavor and personality that make for exciting battles when combined with their wild attack patterns. It's like a really retarded roller coaster; you cruise along the boring track which builds up to the climactic peak, where after a 5-10 minute rush, you're back to the boring track, which is a killjoy like no other.
Now, they had to, they just fucking HAD to do a Japanese cock slap across the face by making the levels locked until you've amassed a small king's fortune worth of money, which you gain mainly through enemy kills. Even with the hordes of assholes running head long your way, it's not enough to unlock the later, 'harder' levels that require thousands of weaboo dollars. This is where you go into the 'overworld', which is essentially a big, horribly un-needed overworld that houses worthless collectibles, and key locations that could've been put in a drop down menu that you could teleport to instead of driving around on a retarded Gundam-esque motorcycle. Besides a few places that boosts your stats or upgrades your weapon, you'll go to a job house and assassination points that both offer minigames; the jobs are easy, but pay jack shit, while the assassination points offer big money, but are more challenging, often times being downright fuck-you unfair (Challenges where you can take only one hit?). Grinding for all of this money never really feels fun, as the assassination points feature the boring, repetitive combat, and the jobs feel like Wario Ware minigames stretched over a 5 minute time limit. But the real reason why NMH is utter fail is because:
It's weaboo trash.
You play as a otaku, who just so happens has a penchant for collecting figurines, including those of school girls. He's the typical murder seeker, who loves the thrill of killing but his snarky attitude and wit comes to a halt when it comes to any of the female bosses dying, which we've seen FAR TOO MANY TIMES. Even though I compliment the game on its appearance, the fact that it uses every cheap trick in the anime animation hand book makes me cringe, and the fact alone it grabs you by the collar and screams, "I'M JAPANESE, FUCK YOU AND GET IN MY BELLY FOR I AM A GIGANTIC ROBOT." makes me shake my head the entire time while playing.
This is not a good game. It doesn't even borderline decent. Boring combat, weaboo bullshit around every turn, ridiculous requirements to unlock new levels, and pitiful excuses for side missions. Everything is is just flavor for the camera to appease those toffee nosed shits masturbating furiously, WISHING they could be as Japanese as this game.
Fuck. This. Shit.
