I've played allot of shooters. I've Played allot of Role Playing Games. They both have great qualities about them. I haven't found a game that combines them in a fun and exciting manner. This was until i picked up Borderlands that is. In this crazy RPFPS they went about creating it with a cartoonish style in mind. this wonderful mix of mission and skill based shooting puts you and up to three of your friends up against an entire planet of raiders, psychos, and many different types of monsters. It allows you to run through the game without MANY side quests being done. You need to complete a few here and there so that you are at an adequate level when going up against the story missions. You can invite your friends in and take everyone on. you can also take each other on in Gearbox's cleverly designed duel system. Another major but still subtle ability is the ability to have everyone playing on complete opposites of the map without the game giving you that iconic "Drag" effect where there can only be so much space between two characters. the world is so large that this is a great feature so that you can have one person doing one part of a given mission while you do the other. The world is also full of interesting weapons. 17,000,000 to be exact. The game provides for over 100 hours of game play with all the different options of how you play the game. Now this game is not without its problems. No game is perfect. The game has an open game option so that you can play the game and allow anyone any level to join you. This provides for a very annoying problem. If you are at the CAP level of the game you will get lots of little pip squeak level people joining and asking you for guns or shields or help. If you are just playing you may get people who just wanna screw around and bother you. If you are a modder which there are plenty of its not a problem. This is until people find out that you are a modder. then they are constantly asking you for mods. If you are like me you mod to see what you can do not have a bunch of punks asking for super guns or shields. This game has many good points to it. Its multi-player needs a little work. This is an over all good game for thirty to forty dollars.
