Resistance 3 is the latest game in the resistance franchise. Starting with one of the most impressive launch titles for the PS3, this franchise has built its self-up to be one of the premier FPS games on the PS3. Resistance 3 continues the story that was left hanging at the end of resistance 2.
This game takes place 4 years after the events of Resistance 2. The majority of the population of the Earth have been wiped out and the Chimera have started terraforming the planet. The plot of the game revolves around your character; Joseph Capelli, trying to reach New York to attempt to stop the Chimeran invasion. The story has changed from the space opera feel of the previous games to be a much more character driven story. You really begin to feel for Joe as he struggles to provide for is family.

However, the mythology of the resistance games has grown a large amount over the past few games to be a full universe that at the moment is full of unanswered questions. Over the course of this game, you learn next to nothing new about the background of this universe. Personally, this was extremely annoying. Even in the text collectables which have traditionally gone into the depth of the universe, they don’t present any real new information.
The feel of the shooting is very arcadey. You move very fast and are always fighting large swarms of opponents. The guns lack a large amount of punch when they are fired, but that can be put down to the fast paced, almost cartoony style of combat. There are a few set pieces that stick in your mind after you have played them, but nothing like the behemoth or kraken of the previous game.

The game looks relatively good, with a good mix of dark blues combined with bright colours when needed. It runs smoothly and never hitched up during my play experience. Occasionally you will get some texture pop in, but for the most part, you don’t notice it.
The campaign travels through 5 separate areas and will take about 6-7 hours depending on what difficulty you are playing on. There is a bit of replay ability with co-op, online and off, and collectable spread through the game.
I was unable to review the multiplayer of this game as the copy that I reviewed it with did not come with an online pass.

In conclusion, Resistance 3 is a game that will entertain you for the seven or so hours that you will spend in the single player, you won’t be heading back to replay it again anytime soon.
