Tak has a weird dream that instructs him to find a Princess and go save her. So he and his friends, Jibolba and Lok set out to rescue her. Pretty simple. Once you find the Princess, your quest is not over as there is much more to the story.
The game looks really beautiful on the Gamecube with very little choppiness. When you are carousing around the Dream World, you see the footprints that Tak leaves. The attacks are animated very nicely as well. Tak pulls off some Matrix-esque moves, providing a slightly more serious tone to a "kiddie" character. The cut scenes in this game are well-voiced, well animated, well-written, and add to the exposition of the story.
It feels like the GameCube controller was made for this game. The buttons are laid out perfectly to execute combo attacks on your enemies.
The musical score to Tak 2 is quite good. The sound effects are okay. Nothing really great, but nothing really bad either. The FX suit the auction on screen.
As you progress through the story mode, you will gain more powers and abilities after accomplishing certain tasks (like destroying a mini-boss or figuring out how to double jump and glide to a far-away platform). You can execute some combo attacks on your enemies by only pressing a maximum of three buttons. So attacks are not complicated, but they are rewarding. To pull off the big moves you have to have enough Juju juice, which you collect throughout the game.
Tak 2 is primarily a one-player game, but there is a two-player mode also. You can unlock mini-games by mixing Juju potions on the recipe scrolls you collect throughout the game. Among the mini-games are snowboarding, sandboarding, senselessly beating the feathers off of chickens, and shooting each other while riding a large bird. There are several more mini-games; some, however, can only be played by one player at a time.
Playing through the story mode will take around 10 or 15 hours.
The humor in this game is definitely for an older crowd, so don't shy away just because you think it is a kid's game. If you like action/platform games, you will really enjoy this game.
