Straight off the bat, the stylus control scheme is one of the worst ever created by man. Never use it.
Apart from that, Ridge Racer can be a mildly fun game. Unlocking cars
is always a pleasure, as well as taking advantage of single-cart
multiplayer. The first few races are fun, and later on the game gets
challenging. The problem does not necessarily reside in the obvious
controls or the barely decent graphics; it is in the stages themselves.
In actuality, there are only 3 stages -- the game just screws around
with the design (example; mirror mode for a later level), so to win the
game you have to beat the computer in 3 different maps with 8
variations each. Not the greatest of Namco's decisions concerning Ridge
Racer DS. The game gets boring and playing through the same stage 8+
times really takes the fun out of it.
Not a good buy, if all you want is a good single-cart racing game. Diddy Kong Racing or Mario Kart are much better substitute and get you much more mileage for your dollar.
