I'm one of the people who love getting all the stars, coins, and in this case, Agility Orbs. Crackdown 2 is essentially a "if it ain't broke" poster child. Those who liked the original game will find similarities to almost a fault. The gameplay is the same as the last game with the additions of the Wingsuit, and a few other weapons.
In terms of the plot, well, there isn't much of a plot. The Freak virus is a really cool story to follow, but it isn't built on at all. Unfortunately, the meat of the plot comes from audio logs which are found throughout the game. The problem of this is that A) There isn't too deep of a plot in the first part and B) These essential plot elements are hidden. While collection-ists like myself will uncover every hidden orb, agility orb, and log, the average gamer will not. The ending of the game adds a nice "twist" that really should have been expanded. I ended the game with a feeling of "that's it?"
Crackdown 2 has the same problem as it's predecessor. The missions are all the same, but instead of gang leaders, its now absorption units and beacons. There are also windows and beams that make you scream in frustration due to not being able to latch onto.
The main draw of this game to me is the 500 Agility Orbs, the 30 Hidden Orbs, and the 52 Audio Logs. The open world environment, combined with the amount of collection brings longevity to a rather lackluster main story.
Crackdown 2 would have been a great game at the $39.99 price point, but it certainly isn't a rip-off at full price. Despite a lacking story, the mechanics that we all loved from the first game remain, as well as the collections that kept people searching long after the story was completed
