These are the games that disappointed me most. They are not specific to any platform.

The 7th Saga

1. The 7th Saga

Oh man! I loved all of the Dragon Warrior games! Enix is making a new RPG on the HOT news console? I'm totally in. Woof. This game was hot garbage. It came at the height of my JRPG insanity, it came out on my most beloved console, it was made by the company that put out my favorite NES games...couldn't miss! Yet, this game was completely devoid of charm, story, characters, and to top it off, was brutally unforgiving. FUCK THIS GAME.

SimEarth: The Living Planet

2. SimEarth: The Living Planet

My mom drove me all the way to the suburbs to get this game. The car broke down on the way home, but we eventually got back. I settled down in front of the TV for a marathon session of this game as soon as I got home. Within MINUTES, I knew this game was a steaming pile. A $70 steaming pile. I was crushed. Damn you, Will Wright!

Final Fantasy VIII

3. Final Fantasy VIII

Let's tap buttons for a half hour while we summon our esper, spirit, guardian, whatever the fuck. Junctioning is still totally nonsensical.

Assassin's Creed

4. Assassin's Creed

Fuck this game and franchise forever.

Final Fantasy XI Online

5. Final Fantasy XI Online

The worst MMO ever. It took entire groups just to take down 1 mob. The Japanese players treated North American players like plankton. The crafting was broken. Also, I played this on a fucking PS2. Gah!

ActRaiser 2

6. ActRaiser 2

The first ActRaiser was a fantastic game. It blended side-scrolling hack and slash action with a simple but fun top-down world building mechanic. The rhythm of the game was great; between the compelling action stages, you had bits of plot and building a world for your worshippers. It was a beautiful balance, and unique gimmick. Naturally, for the sequel...they made it a straight up action game. Ugh.

Bushido Blade 2

7. Bushido Blade 2

They simplified the combat, made the graphics shittier, and watered down the story modes. Thanks.

SaGa Frontier

8. SaGa Frontier

I don't necessarily blame the game with this one. I don't think I was ready for how non-linear this game was.

Rise of the Robots

9. Rise of the Robots

A sorta pretty but ultimately awful fighting game.

Grand Theft Auto IV

10. Grand Theft Auto IV

Almost as depressing and dreary as actually living in NYC. Almost.
