2019 had a great variety of high quality games that managed to increase my playtime and get me gaming again. It also felt like a more competitive year than recent ones before it as there was not an obvious winner to me and a lot of games that had incredible strengths.

What a risk for Capcom to go back to its older games and do complete remakes, especially when the series felt like it crashed at RE6 and needed a complete change of direction. Pretty much everything here is done masterfully, with stunning visuals and immersive combat and a return to true horror elements. I love this game, especially with the intimacy of the setting as the game is all based in the police headquarters, and the whole game feels like a letter of love to fans of the series as well as engrossing for new players. What an achievement.
The finale of the redone trilogy of Mortal Kombat games and, while it is not my favourite (that is still MK9) it is a fitting way to draw that arc to a close while setting up future releases in the series. A great roster, an engaging story mode with meaty expansions and the fantastic fighting mechanics that I love in this series. An excellent release.
Keeping faithful to the classic formula of the Pokemon series but expanding the world in scale, Sword/Shield are an excellent, if safe, debut for the main series on the Switch. I am a fan of the series structure and this was no different, with a great lineup of gyms and new Pokemon to catch as well as DLC. The initial post game content was lacking but the story was decent for the standards of the series and the presentation here just does what it needs to do.
Slick and effective campaign with some very well reimagined characters is at the core of this one for me. I have always been focused on the campaigns in the Call of Duty series, and this one is a solid engaging one for its duration. Lacks the impact and staying power of the series now long ago heights, but for a Call of Duty game in 2019 its very effective.
