Another year that I struggled to find enough games to play to fill a top ten, and this was definitely becoming a trend at this stage. Some amazing releases at the top but overall I think a pretty weak year and one that I had to play catchup on to find games that grabbed my attention in any meaningful way.

What an incredible new direction for such a well established series. Honouring the previous games while taking an entirely new direction flawlessly. Masterpiece of the modern singleplayer story driven experience but with some damn satisfying and tight combat mechanics. Such great boss fights and moments. Truly an epic game in the proper sense of the description.
What an unexpectedly fun and brilliantly designed action game. Taking all the colour and vibrant nature that Insomniac are known for, inject it into the combat structure of the Arkham games and set it in the world of Spider-Man and you get an idea of what this is. The story was surprisingly engaging, the visuals are gorgeous and traversing the city is an absolute pleasure and easy to do. Everything here just works, and the scale as well as the boss fights are stunning.
Main story falls flat in the middle and ends out of nowhere (didn't play the dlc) but what an incredible rendition of the Hellenistic world. The locations, the music, the atmosphere are all incredible and the game embraces the rpg Witcher-esque vibe for better or worse. I really enjoyed it despite some issues with enemies being sponges and the lagging narrative.
Strong opening and a setting that I found attractive but seriously repetitive at times and disappointing compared to the stellar 3 and 4. The main villain again disappears for the vast majority of the game and while I did enjoy its setting I just didn't find it as intriguing as previous Far Cry games, especially the magical Himalayan world of Far Cry 4.
