MonkeyKing1969: Best of 2010

Showing 1-10 of 10 items

Heavy Rain

1. Heavy Rain

The most engaging and thought provoking game of the year. A new way of placing the concept of 'what is a fail state' into the player’s hands. This is the one game I played repeatedly because each play through was more enjoyable then the last.

Red Dead Redemption

2. Red Dead Redemption

Kirby has nothing on this game, this was the 'epic yarn' of 2010. There were parts of this game I hated becaus it took 'authorial control' out of my hands at the wrong time. They insist John is a reformed man, but I seemingly must mow down everyone. The makers insist John loves his wife so won't go whoring...but we don't meet this woman until the end...I don't care about her...because I NEVER meet her until then end. Its one thing to tell their story, but it is MY story too Rock Star...yet it is still a great game.

Mass Effect 2

3. Mass Effect 2

A lovely story with interesting characters, but not enough RPG elements. Or, it could be viewed as a shooter with too much RPG baggaged left behind. A very good game in any case.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

4. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

A solid game the shows how to make multiplayer fit your game even if you're not a shooter. Smart design, smart execution of game play, and smart use of IP.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

5. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

The most underappreciated game made this year. A game anyone can play, yet without being dull just for a casual audience. A smartly wrought game that anyone can play...there are too few of those game and there needs to be more of them.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

6. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

The best crafted multiplayer military shooter made this year. Logical & fair game play with fewer bugs then anything else. A vitamin fortified organic whole grain game, not junk food like CoD BLOPS. Good and good for you too!

Vanquish

7. Vanquish

A clever twist on an action shooter. This best execution from Japan to be something the west could enjoy.

God of War III

8. God of War III

Simply a great game. Not my cup of tea at all, yet it does what it does better then any other game in its class. A working-class hero of the game world.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

9. Call of Duty: Black Ops

It is sugar cereal for the soul. You know it is empty calories and likely full of Red Dye #3, but you love it. The multiplayer keeps me coming back because it is always 'dropping treats' into my Halloween Bag.

Gran Turismo 5

10. Gran Turismo 5

GT 5, a game that sneers at your Petit-bourgeois sensibilities for accessibility. A game that derides your demands for easy access, and laughs at your 'American Whopper' desires to have it your way. GT 5 is better then you and doesn't care if you feel angry about that.
