Conquests 12: Year of Redemption? (Games I Beat in 2022)

by bobafettjm

So, I guess 2021 wasn't really so much better than 2020 was it? In terms of my game beating goals I fell spectacularly short last year with only 28 games beaten out of my goal of 40. I am not sure what went wrong, but honestly I think it is just because of too much choice. Back in the day it was so much easier to finish games because I would maybe have a handful to choose from, but now between Game Pass and games going on sale for so cheap, I have literally multiple thousands of games to choose from.

This year I REALLY want to try and plow through some of these games.

I will quote my criteria from previous years.

As with every year I am counting games that I finish the story or campaign mode on, or whatever the equivalent may be. In some cases a game may not have a story mode, so I will count it if I finish every achievement or goal. In the case of some pinball machines (on Pinball Arcade) I will count them if I finish every standard and wizard goal. I will also count a game beat if I put a ton of time into it if it has no way of finishing it. If the game is primarily multiplayer I will count it if I have finished all the achievements/trophies or possibly if the game has challenges or such.

Halo Infinite

1. Halo Infinite

I thought this would be my final game of 2021, but it turns out it was the first game of 2022 on January 1st. Played through this mostly on Xbox Series X (with a little on PC). I loved the experience way more than I had anticipated. I have always loved the Halo series, but after Halo 5 I didn't have a huge amount of expectations going in to this one. The game originally just launched with the multiplayer, which I had a ton of fun in as it really felt like classic Halo with some quality of life improvements. Then I got to play the campaign. I really think the shift to a mostly open world and adding a fun as hell grappling hook made this a breath of fresh air. I don't think the story was anything to write home about, but it was enjoyable.

2. Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy

Man, what a game. This one completely came out of nowhere for me. I wasn't expecting much after the Avengers game, and I feel like this wasn't marketed very well. After a little while I started to see really positive things about it, so I picked it up on some Christmas sale. I was hooked on the story of this one from start to finish. The dialog between the characters is pretty much constant, but rather than being annoying I feel like it was so well written that I never got tired of it. I think some of these actors did a better job than the movie versions, which I didn't expect at all. The combat didn't always wow me, but it was good enough to compliment the rest of the experience.

7. Spy Fox in "Dry Cereal"

This, out of all games ended up being the first game I beat in my Steam Deck. This one is pretty nostalgic for me. I had no idea Ron Gilbert worked on these Humongous Entertainment games, but I guess it makes sense as to why I live them so much.
