10 games I'm looking forward to the most in 2026

by beachthunder

2025 Report Card: From last year's list, only three and a half of the games actually came out (Heart of the Machine was only released in early access this year). I didn't get around to Bye Sweet Carole, but its reception seemed pretty lukewarm anyway. Both of the games that came out which I played - Doom Dark Ages and The Outer Worlds 2 - were pretty good. Mass Effect 4 was clearly never going to actually come out this year. That's okay, as it turns out, I think what I really wanted was a Mass Effect game that was new to me (Andromeda, that is). I went into that game with my expectations at rock bottom, and I ended up having a blast with it. Sadly, the failure of Andromeda means that the next Mass Effect game will likely be very much on the safe side with all your favourite trilogy characters returning again - for no good reason. And, as per usual, Xenonauts 2 is still in a seemingly endless state of being stuck in early access... Also, it's hard to believe, but Routine actually finally came out!! I first had Routine on one of these lists over a decade ago. Flash forward to 2025, I definitely enjoyed my time with it, but I'm not exactly sure it was actually worth the wait. Anyway, now for the games I'm most looking forward to most next year:

Showing 1-10 of 10 items

SOMA

1. SOMA

ONTOS. I have no idea what this is. And, honestly, I don't wanna know. You had me at spiritual successor to SOMA.

Mina the Hollower

2. Mina the Hollower

I hope this is good, not only for myself - a *connoisseur* of the two dimensional Zeldas - but also, for Yacht Club Games' survival...

Mewgenics

3. Mewgenics

Actually really finally coming out!?

4. Resident Evil 9 (working title)

I'm very glad they're continuing with the first-person perspective thing. The first two games were excellent (RE7 and 8, that is), and I think I'll keep playing them as long as they keep making them.

Endless Legend

5. Endless Legend

Endless Legend 2. Currently in Early Access. I've not played any of it yet, but from what I've seen, it looks very good. I'm not generally a fan of fantasy stuff, but Amplitude have proven themselves (Humankind notwithstanding) to be exceptional at designing 4X games - and I sure do love me an exceptionally designed 4X game.

The Witness

6. The Witness

Order of the Sinking Star. I'm sure this will be simultaneously brilliant AND filled with a whole bunch of obnoxious bullshit. Can't wait.

Control Resonant

7. Control Resonant

If I'm being honest, I'm not really the biggest fan of having to play as Jesse's brother, I would definitely have placed this higher on the list if Jesse was still the (main) protagonist. Anyway, I'm still excited to play this - I just can't say no to more stuff in the Control universe...well, unless it's FBC: Firebreak..

Mouse: P.I. for Hire

8. Mouse: P.I. for Hire

They even got Troy Baker in on this!

STASIS: BONE TOTEM

9. STASIS: BONE TOTEM

ANIMAL USE PROTOCOL. A bit of a departure from The Brotherhood's isometric point and click fare, but I'm very interested to see where they go with this.

Bath, Somerset

10. Bath, Somerset

Psychotic Bathtub. I am just so intrigued by this. That is all.
