10 games I'm looking forward to the most in 2025

2024 Report Card

Only three games from the previous year’s list came out this year. I played two of them (Wild Bastards and Still Wakes the Deep), and only one of those ended up on my 2024 GOTY list (it was Wild Bastards).

And as excited I was about Metal Slug Tactics last year, I never actually ended up playing it when it got released. I'm sure I'll probably get around to it at some point.

The other seven games didn’t come out, and Once Upon a Time... Life: Origins got cancelled?? At very least, it’s no longer listed on Steam.

Oh, and UFO 50 finally came out! Granted, I didn't put it on last year's list, but I did have it on the list for years and years and years and years, and then I stopped because I lost faith in it actually coming out...

So, anyway...the ten games I’m looking forward to the most in 2025:

Showing 1-10 of 10 items

Doom: The Dark Ages

1. Doom: The Dark Ages

Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!

Control Resonant

2. Control Resonant

Control 1 was surprisingly great. I only played it for the first time a couple of years back, I initially avoided it because I wasn’t much of a fan of the original Alan Wake. So, I’m glad I ended up checking it out. There’s so much great stuff in that game. I assume/hope Control 2 will be just as good…well, ideally with some of the rough edges smoothed out.

Mina the Hollower

3. Mina the Hollower

Link's Awakening-likes are so hot right now.

Next Mass Effect (Working Title)

4. Next Mass Effect (Working Title)

Let’s say there’s a (very optimistic) 5% chance of this coming out in 2025. That’s probably good enough odds to include this here, right? I had no interest in playing the new Dragon Age, but people being very positive about it have made me sorta hyped to play a new Mass Effect.

The Outer Worlds 2

5. The Outer Worlds 2

I loved the first one, even though it did peter out a little towards the end. Hopefully those big Microsoft bucks will help Obsidian to flesh things out a bit more.

Bye Sweet Carole

6. Bye Sweet Carole

If nothing else, it’s certainly very pretty. At least from what I’ve seen, it does a great job of capturing that early Disney animation aesthetic. As a bonus, maybe it might also be enjoyable to play.

Heart of the Machine

7. Heart of the Machine

Seems like an interesting take on the 4X genre. And if any genre needs more interesting takes, it’s the 4X genre. I mean, there’s a reason Heart of the Machine is on this list and Civilization 7 isn’t. Sorry, Sid - I’ll play your game at some point, I promise, but probably not next year.

Mouse: P.I. for Hire

8. Mouse: P.I. for Hire

Another traditionally animated game - well, at least one that’s trying to evoke that look. This seems like the exact thing I’d be super into, so let’s hope the gameplay is as compelling as the aesthetic.

Mewgenics

9. Mewgenics

I barely know what this game is anymore, but I still wanna play it.

Xenonauts 2

10. Xenonauts 2

Let me just keep listing this here forever… Some random Steam user is adamant it’ll actually come out in 2025! And who am I to argue? I have chosen to trust this random internet person implicitly!
