Well, working from the bottom up here, I don't remember the user who recommended it to me, but they specifically recommended the game to me after I said I no longer trusted Kojima after the mess that was MGS4.
OH GOD I LOST ALL THE TEXT I HAD. I'm actually a couple of hours in and already seriously enjoying it.
Also recommended by the GameOn chat. Much higher endorsement, though some debate as to whether I should play the PSN version based on the PS1 release or the PSP remastered version with a new translation and bonus content. Eventually, the PSN version seemed to have won out due to an excessive use of "..." in the new translation and a weird aspect ratio on the PSP.
Found a nice thread on pre-2006 RPGs. I actually have a copy, but it's sitting at a friend's house because I couldn't run it on any of my PCs at the time... "Fallout 1 & 2 are old but I feel they still stand up, I play 2 pretty often."-ModerateViolence.
I would enjoy playing the older Fallout games, though, especially considering how much I love Fallout 3. Also, apparently 5 bucks on Steam.
