Mass Effect 2

1. Mass Effect 2

I really loved Mass Effect 1, despite its flaws, and was very apprehensive about the changes being made to Mass Effect 2. Holy crap, was I wrong. The first (and so far) only game I've S-Ranked that doesn't rhyme with Shmavatar, ME2 blew every game out of the water right at the beginning of 2010.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

2. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West

If I'm being honest with myself, the "game" stuff of Enslaved is not that great at worst, and merely good at best. But, I don't care; that's not what makes Enslaved so wonderful and special. This game is all about its story and characters, and the gameplay basically just needs to not get in the way to make this a wonderful experience. This game does with its characters what Heavy Rain was supposed to; life-like animations, natural voice acting, and the most stunning eyes in any game ever combine to make Enslaved a cinematic wonder, and the simple-yet-enjoyable combat and Prince of Persia inspired platforming don't hurt either.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

3. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

I loved Assassin's Creed 2. Brotherhood is just more awesome-sauce piled on with a heaping helping of the most unique multiplayer I've seen in a console game. I was worried that AC:B was coming out too soon, but after that ending, I don't know if I can wait a whole year for the next one.

Red Dead Redemption

4. Red Dead Redemption

For whatever reason, I thought this game was going to be not all that great. I'm just not into Western games, and thought, despite Rockstar's pedigree, that Red Dead was going to be as big of a flop as Gun or its spiritual predecessor. Holy crap, was I wrong. Rockstar proves they still have some of the best writing chops in the biz with a fantastic story with a gut-wrenching ending and wonderful characters. And hey, shooting dudes with old guns is FINALLY fun!

5. Alan Wake

Like Enslaved, I feel like I hold Alan Wake in higher regard than most people. To me, this game was awesome. The atmosphere created by the game's usage of light and fog (oh holy crap, that fog is so awesome) is second to none, and I really dug the combat in that game. I liked the fact that I felt like I was just scraping by, and that Alan didn't handle all that fluidly; he shouldn't! After all, he's just some writer dude who fires a pistol at the range every once and awhile. I liked the story despite its somewhat convoluted twists and turns, and am very hopeful for an Alan Wake sequel or some surprise DLC.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable

6. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable

Who cares if this is a remake of a game that came out several years ago? P3P is probably the game I put the most hours into, and it's still an excellent game that holds up extremely well since its original release date.

Halo: Reach

7. Halo: Reach

Bungie's love-letter to its marquee series has everything a Halo fan could ever want. As someone who was disappointed with Halo 3 and generally burned out on all things Halo, Reach was like a big hug from an old friend, reminding me of why I fell in love with the series and spent so much of my high-school days playing Halo 2.

Sid Meier's Civilization V

8. Sid Meier's Civilization V

Okay, so here's the thing about Civ 5. The computer I'm playing it on isn't really all that great, so by the time I get close to the end game, it takes about half an hour for anything to happen since the processor is weeping at calculating all the computer characters' moves and my non-existant graphics card can barely render ANYTHING. But holy crap I've still sunk so much freaking time into this game and I love it so, so much.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2

9. Battlefield: Bad Company 2

Hey, guess what? This game is way better than Call of Duty. Boom, I said it.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

10. Super Mario Galaxy 2

Come on, man. It's friggin Mario!
