I've always loved the MMX series. Always. Since I played X2 for the SNES. Here's how I feel about them.

Just utterly fantastic. The presentation was top-notch, the ability to play through the entire game with Zero was a big plus, and the anime cut-scenes added some much needed depth to the MMX story.
The first I've ever played, and my favorite set of bosses in the MMX series.
I prefer the SNES version. It was a nice slower introduction to Zero gameplay, as well.
The first of the series, but the worst of the SNES games. It left some things to be desired, but most were rectified in the following entries. Still an incredible game.
There were a lot of significant changes in this entry, some good and some bad. I liked being able to switch between Zero and X every level, and the addition of skill levels being added to the bosses. I didn't like the difficulty being tiered though; MMX games are supposed to be difficult. Also, fuck the new story characters. Zero and X were fine the whole series.
This game got its shit together from the atrocity that was X7. Vile had his much needed return, and most of the stages were strictly 2D if I remember correctly. Axl is still fucking stupid.
This game beats X7 mostly because it was a 2D game. But it took what worked in X5, and added more unnecessary changes. The Nightmare system was also pretty insignificant.
The first of the 3D games. It was pretty awful. Axl is fucking stupid.
