Probably my absolute #1 game of all time. It's easy to understand how influential the game is, but, besides Tetris, it's my most replayable game ever. So vast, free, and full of life.
My second favorite N64 title. It hasn't lasted quite as well as the older Zelda titles, but it's still really important to 3D adventures.
It's a game that came out of nowhere for me. It's shocking at times, especially the bathtub scene, but it features enough gameplay quirks to stay relevant. People still talk about the glitches that fooled gamers into thinking their TV was on the break.
It holds a special place in my heart since it helped get me through my first lonely days of college, but it's also a legitimately great puzzler. The 3D version is going to be fun too.
I've probably put more hours into this game than any other in my life. Hundreds, maybe even thousands, which is scary. Every afternoon of many summers were spent with this game and my friends. It's never gotten old. I hope it never does.
This is the most recent addition to the list. I'm not a huge RPG lover, but it mixed in enough of a shooter element to keep me hooked. It also helps that it has a fun story, breath-taking graphics, and a round characters.
It's horribly unbalanced and the sprites are inconsistent as all hell, but it's a game a person who isn't experienced with fighters can play, and love. And that's me. So many characters, so many locations, so many moves and specials. Absolutely nuts.
Another game added simply because of how much time and energy I used up to play this game. In high school, it was my life when I wasn't playing Smash or in school. One of the best multiplayer games ever.
If anyone ever asks if games have ever produced great stories, I'll always point to Half-Life 2. Not only is the story well constructed, but it's done so in a way so unique to the gaming artform. It ill never be faithfully be reproduced in any other way. Ever.
People have complained about its length, but forget those morons. Portal lasts exactly as long as it should. It doesn't outstay its welcome and every level produces a new twist or turn on the basic formula with the funniest ending I've ever played.
