This was definitely the most fun I had all year. I appreciate the more limited scope of the game allowing for a more granular map and more of a feeling of piecing together barely civilized kingdoms. The small size of the map and the specific setting also better justify the always limited troop count in Total War games and gave me the feeling of seeing to-scale versions of warfare in this time period, which is a first for the series. Finally, this game let me be Alfred the Great which is a plus on it's own.
There are so few games with this kind of adventure/puzzle mechanic and this is absolutely the best of them. Combine that with the unique art style and the evocative sound design and you get a game that has not been seen before and might not be seen again. This is truly a masterwork.
It's more Hitman with 100% more flamingo suits.
I just have a thing for Picross and this is about as good as a 2D Picross game gets.
I've had fun with even the bad Spiderman games, and this one is actually good. The movement is great, the combat is serviceable, it looks good enough, and it's well written to the point that this is the first time I've given a damn about Peter Parker in any medium.
I'm not a fighting game guy, but this is a really good one of those and one of the few Arc Systems games that I can (mostly) wrap my head around. Plus, this game started a chain of events that got me all of the way into the Dragonball franchise, so it deserves some acknowledgement.
I know it's bad, but I played all the way through anyway and mostly enjoyed it. My only grips are that the loot drops are too meager and the street racing part of the game is bad (which is about 1/4 of the races, but whatever.) I'm a sucker for open world driving games and I had too much fun with the real-time vehicle switching.
I was excited when I learned that the new Dynasty Warriors was going to be open world, and boy is it. Maybe too much so. I still had a good time though.
This is the first Smash game that I've enjoyed. It took me a while to realize why, and I ended up with the truth that even though the fighting is trash everything built around the fighting is amazing. That's all there is to say.
If anything, this game was too small. The gameplay reminded me of Katamari, which was enough to get me to play through in one sitting and left me wanting more. Other than that, BK is both the best and the worst at the same time and the text-speak style of writing in this game is a harbinger for the end of civilization.
