Globally, 2018 WAS A SHITSHOW. My personal life was ok. Below are some games I used to pass the time as the world burned. Also shout out to Netflix. Castlevania season 2 owns, and Disenchanted reminds me of early Futurama. Both are worth your time.

BattleTech was my favorite game this year. Even with a full-time job and family I managed to put 150 hours into this game. I love giant robots, and this game let me live out my fantasy of controlling a squad of Mechs. This game's story is great, but it also let me generate my own stories. I created a mercenary group led by my daughter. When my son was born this year, the brother and sister mercenary group ran roughshod through the Inner Sphere. I also love the depth of the Mech customization. This game has replaced Front Mission 4 as my desert island game. It also doesn't hurt that you can play this game one handed while holding a newborn.
I was lucky enough to get not one, but 2 Mech games (And a bad Pacific Rim movie) all before my birthday Into the Breach is a puzzle game in a Turn Based Strategy game's clothing, and I love it. There are few things that match the feeling of knocking a Vek into blocking another, thus killing both. This game is great at making you feel really clever. But it can also make you feel really bad if you accidentally paint yourself into a corner.
Diablo Immortals really sucked all of the air out of the room when it comes to the 'Fans mad at a beloved franchise being done on Mobile' I love the RTS Genre, and I am always looking for new games. Before fans were mad about that, they were mad about C&C Rivals. Sadly, the genre seems to be dead. I was excited when I heard about rivals, but skeptical when I heard it was similar to Clash Royale. the game is actually a good distillation of competitive RTS. (Which I suck at) The game has just enough RTS elements to scratch that itch on mobile. Unlike Clash Royale, you can control units directly. The game has a good variety of units and strategies to try and counter. I wish someone would make an 'old school' RTS on mobile(or PC) but this works for now.
The Battle For Polytopia is a fun version of Civilization Revolution. I have spent many hours conquering the while committing. After a while, the game gets a bit same-y but you can always up the challenge. It is a great train game.
This game is fun, and the writing is superb. I chuckled out loud at the raccoon's view on the world. As a busy parent, I appreciated the game's ability to be deliver its message succinctly. It's a fun game with something to say if you look out for it.
I loved this game's premise, you build a city that can withstand a zombie apocalypse. The game is RTS, Meets Tower Defense, Meets city builder. Eventually, waves of ever increasing hordes will attack you, until you are attacked by BILLIONS of infected. This game can be unforgiving, I once lost a whole colony because a rouge shambler wandered into one of my cottages and turned everyone into zombies. It's cool to have an RTS that rewards 'turtling' in an RTS.
