Game of The Year 2014 Users Choice

by wagrid

Quite a few of the games I played this year were from my backlog and a lot of the games that were released this year were pretty disappointing. So, I couldn't really manage a top 10.

The Banner Saga

1. The Banner Saga

A brilliantly written, wonderfully presented and mechanically satisfying game.

Divinity: Original Sin

2. Divinity: Original Sin

Really great on nearly every level. The incredibly generic and bland main narrative really lets it down.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

3. Dragon Age: Inquisition

A really great game that's hamstrung by some weird design choices concerning the combat and that ultimately has a few too many areas.

Transistor

4. Transistor

Really good. No really overt flaws, but not my favourite game of the year.

Dark Souls II

5. Dark Souls II

Probably the most disappointing sequel of all time, for me personally. It's still a really good game in a lot of ways, but the extent to which I felt let down makes it hard to love.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

6. Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Really cool, but I honestly never got properly into it.

Mario Kart 8

7. Mario Kart 8

It's Mario Kart and I like Mario Kart.

Child of Light

8. Child of Light

Definitely not a perfect game, but I really enjoyed my time with it.
