So many good games this year! It may be one if not the best year for games ever!? Its great to be a gamer. No way i can limit it to 10!!!!!

Night in the Woods

1. Night in the Woods

I loved this game, played through twice. I dont think there will ever be another game like it/one that speaks to me like it did. Lightning in a bottle! Very real without being preachy. And the twist... Man.... Can't platinum trophy it which is the only bummer (glitched? And some trophies hard a f#*k). But the music, the art, the "sass". This game is sassy. Got custom artwork done for me because of this game!

Cat Quest

2. Cat Quest

Okay, as you can see by my #1 and #2... i like Cats. But that alone would not sway me. i wouldn't put Catlateral Damage on here. This is a cute, bright, Diablo like loot game, that actually has you learn how to use combat, magic, and the roll effectively. One of the best difficulty curves Ive ever seen in a game. The plot might be a little light? But I had tons of fun, plowed through this game like I didn't even with Zelda. Not 100% sure what caught my eye over some of the other big budget games, but for the price, I was very satisfied with my time with Cat Quest, and wanted it to go on!!!

3. Assassin's Creed Origins

I played this late - in 2018. But in retrospect - this game was what Zelda should have been. Seeing as the character got "character of the year", its gross that this wasn't on GB's top 10 and Dream Daddy was.... (And Zelda is). It let you climb anything - without the stupid rain and stamina. Your horse summoned to you better. Your weapons didn't break, (but I still wanted to explore, find chests and get new weapons). The open world letting you basically go where you wanted. Zelda was basically this game down to the towers opening up the map. The few things I wish this game had that Zelda had were a glider (climbing down from mountains got old), and i do like creatures and Moblins better than the repetitive Roman guards. Although you did get cats and crocodiles - and Guardians and Lionels got old in Zelda as well. I think the DLC adds mummies and stuff? So i wish that were part of the game. this does have the HORRIBLE Ubisoft "hey by something at the store" being pounded at you all the time. But Zelda got some lame DLC too.I think this is the better of the tow, but Zelda has all the Nintendo fans and nostalgia bots drinking that Kool-aid. I like Zelda's art style, but man this game just looks so much better.

Horizon Zero Dawn

4. Horizon Zero Dawn

Tied with Origins for 3rd? Damn good game! I think being a new IP gives it some points as well. What I wanted Monster Hunter to be? Again, perhaps controversial against the white whale in the room - Zelda. But I think this and origins were better as AAA games. There were things here I didn't like that a sequel needs to fix -- the climbing (or lack there of) in this game. But there was actually more i didn't like in Zelda, and art wise, just like Origins, it rocked Zelda (i liked Zelda's Nintendo art style, but the pop in poor draw distance actually had negative gameplay impact). Horizon is what games are supposed to look like! I really want a fleshed out sequel!!

NieR:Automata

5. NieR:Automata

I'm one of the few who played and beat Nier #1. This game is so great, such a good soundtrack, such weird gameplay. Story is so neat. If the combat was stronger it would be higher on the list.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Fun game, solid 6th. Maybe the most over rated game in history though? Hearing people say its the "game of the year" is silly. Its not. You like it because you want to like Zelda. Give it a different IP and it would have rated much lower. This was a very good game dont get me wrong. But it brought the Switch in - which as of yet is just a port machine, and I think it just got so much buzz since it was a launch game. It will be game of the year on this website I'm sure (As long as its not "battlefield unknown" - but that will be up there for the Bomb crew too...) -- but it has its flaws. Some of which I feel are corrected (or improved) in DLC like the map system, but thats not part of the base game. The Wii U version not using the gamepad for your inventory just because of Switch version not being able to do it is inexcusable! Empty spots on the map that you venture all the way too just to find.. nothing. Breaking weapons. Really bad draw in distance (on Wii u at least). Oh my god slipping in the rain.... The plot and voice acting... Not a perfect game. But I put a lot of hours in!!

Super Mario Odyssey

7. Super Mario Odyssey

I'm not actually a huge Mario fan. its weird. i play them, own them, but they never get in my top 50 games of all time. They are like better Sonic, and I hate Sonic. I loved the Galaxy games - but I hated the Wii Motes... I liekd Mario 64 but hated the N64 controllers - maybe I dont dislike Mario - i dislike Nintendo's controllers!? ha-ha Anyway, 3D Land was fun - but this is like the first Mario in a while i really wanted to play! (i do hate the switch joy-con controllers, but the pro-gamepad was fine). Having a Wii U there is not a lot I want to play on my Switch, this is the game. Its cool. This didnt get me to buy the Switch yet, but it will be the first game I buy, (I have a Wii U so its still just re-releases pretty much so far, not many new games).

Persona 5

8. Persona 5

I admit I haven't played much of this one yet, but Ive watched a lot, and that counts. I love persona, this has its lovers an haters, but I'm just trying to get some free time to bite into it!

Slime Rancher

9. Slime Rancher

This was my #3 originally -- I liked Slime Rancher more than Zelda and Horizon... I know zero people in the world will agree with that -- but its my list. My niece loved it too. I remember it better than Horizon or Zelda, and i loved the aesthetic, it was just fun to play. But the end game kind of fell apart. they could add some stuff in a patch maybe? But the end underwhelmed, i was like "why do i need to save for this other part???". the first 10 hours though !! Id put at my #3 game; the last 5 hours I felt like... "so whats next". i think Slime Rancher 2 could be game of the year if it ever comes out and fixes some issues!!!

Gravity Rush 2

10. Gravity Rush 2

Controversial I know - Gamespot loved it, Giantbomb not so much. I think its a "Japanese Game" thing. i love quirky Japanese games, I liked the first Gravity Rush (almost 100% it), and this one is better!
